saint cupcake would like to give a shout out the all those scrunchies participating in the 2008 summer olympics. oh, and those amazing athletes attached to them, too. just as cupcakes can stand the test of time, so have the wonderful hairstyles of gymnasts from around the world. jami thinks it’s due to the fact that the hair has to appeal to eastern european judges, but i think it’s that hair tie technology has not improved since the invention of the scrunchy. getting hair in your mouth and eyes while on the uneven parallels could prove disastrous.

so, in honor of team usa and all it’s scrunchies, if you are an olympic athlete (any event!) and can prove it OR you come in with fantastic olympic gymnast hair (you know, tight pony/bun, many clippies, and maybe even sparkles!) we’ll give you a free full size cupcake. if you are an actual olympic athlete, we’ll give you one week from closing ceremonies to get to portland to get your cupcake. offer good thru 8/31.

since stephanie is on vacay from noun, we thought we’d shut the very same doors to saint cupcake on belmont, too, until she gets back on thursday 8.21. the good news is, we are still open on nw 17th and flanders! you won’t go cupcakeless by any means. so we’ll see you soon, right? sorry for any inconvenience, especially to our belmont neighbors.

“don’t you people want ice cream!?” i shouted at the huge line of customers packed in the bakery from in front of the oven doors. “it’s like 175 degrees today!” they just smiled and continued buying and eating cupcakes. “ice cream!” but they weren’t hearing this as a plea. and they didn’t even seem to think it was a suggestion. “cupcakes it is, then,” i says. i suppose it is only too hot for soup today. good thing we are not called saint soup.

jaime (a.k.a. lil jaime) is our pink haired baker. she’s cute, she’s sassy and she has the most goofiest laugh you will ever hear. but whatever you do, don’t call her a cupcake robot. that won’t make her laugh. she’s not a robot. she’s a baker and she’s got mad icing skills.

look at this cake she made for devan (also known as girl devan and not to be confused with our very own boy devan. girl devan used to work here, but left to take more classes in art school. boy devan still works here but is referred to as the whistler behind his back) girl devan loves barack obama. and lil jaime was able to create His likeness out of cream cheese frosting. you just don’t see that everyday.

happy birthday, girl devan!
