POSTED ON Tuesday, June 30, 2009 AT 11:28 by saint cupcake
on wednesday, july 1st, our very own and much beloved rachel turns 31! rachel likes bean ‘n cheese burritos with guac (if the guac is evenly distributed), steve perry, cats and funny cat pictures, baking, froofy drinks, her husband jerry, american idol, zac efron movies, nora ephron movies, goldie hawn biographies, cupcakes and being awesome.
on saturday, july 4th, our very own america turns 233! america likes bruce springsteen, the right to bear arms and not bearing arms, (and michelle obama’s bare arms), buying things on credit, recycling (depending which coast you’re on), setting off fireworks a week before it’s birthday, food carts, SUVs, CSI, SVU, larry king live, cupcakes and also being awesome.
although we love rachel, saint cupcake will be keeping regular hours on wednesday.
BUT, we’re closing early on saturday the 4th! come in before 6pm and take a gander at our special 4th of july cupcakes! so cute! and american! just like the bbq you’re going to!
they’ll also be extra american looking cupcakes on friday the 3rd. bring some to the office, why don’tcha!
why yes, we can send cupcakes to texas

i love getting mail. and packages. just yesterday i came home from work and there was a box (from Powell’s!) on my front porch. so super exciting! new books to read! new recipes to try! sweet!
chances are, you also like getting packages...and if you don’t, chances are you know someone who does.
take for example my ohio university freshman year roommate, megan. she was (and probably still is) SO completely mail obsessed. she would get so excited about a visit from the postman - and a package slip in our mailbox sent her over the moon.
you know what you should do? check out our online cupcake shop and send someone cupcakes! what an easy way to totally make someone so happy! and we think our fancy cupcake choosing technology is so fun that you’ll want to visit our online cupcake shop often - which is totally fine by us! we love packing up sprinkles and icing and cupcakes and birthday candles! we love handwriting a cute note to be included in the box! we even love our fancy tape with ‘saint cupcake’ written all over it! and you will, too! start shopping now!
take a peek at our adorable cupcake packages! they will make someone you love very happy. even someone in texas (like my sister!) promise.
day-old extravaganza! (today only, hopefully!)

whats the matter, portland? did we say something to offend you? (quite possibly. i’ve received hate mail with regards to a previous blog entry entitled ‘gluttens for gluten’. sorry, celiacs!) was thursday just not a cupcake day? or are you all just stunned that the end of june is next week and we’re going to have to put on bathing suits at some point in the next couple of months and have decided that beer and cupcakes are the devil? well, good news. we don’t serve beer. so come back, portland. 45 minutes on the eliptical should compensate just fine for a trip to saint cupcake.
yesterday’s slow cupcake sales are today’s super deal! come by nw today, june 19th, for a box of mystery day olds! 6 full or 12 dot boxes (no peeking!) for only 8 bucks! we’ve picked out an assortment of leftovers and boxed them up for you to eat in the car, take to your neighbor, or to bring back to the office after lunch.
while supplies last, of course. see you soon!
so out of touch

oh, the facebook. and the twitter. all of this crazy social networking business that takes place on the interwebs...is it just me, or does this stuff make us more connected yet so totally disconnected at the very same time?
lately i’ve been thinking back to simpler days. a time when we did a lot more face-to-face talking. i used to tell THE BEST stories. seriously, ask anyone. and i also used to write really good (actual handwritten) letters. sure, i used the f-word a lot, but they were really good letters (if I do say so myself.) and lately, i’m totally out of practice both in storytelling AND letterwriting. i write emails, sure. i send txt’s, yeah...but i have lost my edge, if you know what i mean.
a few days ago i pulled out a box of my old journals. 10 years ago i wrote in a journal EVERY SINGLE DAY. i’m not joking. mostly i detailed what i ate or baked each day. and i’m not talking about entries as simple as a facebook status update...but super detailed accounts of all of my thoughts (and meals) written WITH A PEN in an ACTUAL BOOK. yes, kind of like a blog but without using a computer.
i didn’t really realize it, but i miss really talking. and really writing. and really communicating.
that said, i’d like to invite you to Back Fence PDX - an evening of storytelling. real actual stories from real actual people. seven people, sharing true, unmemorized tales based on a single theme. awesome - a way to really connect with real people!
when is this amazing event taking place, you ask? next wednesday! june 17th at the mission theater. the theme for the evening is ‘getting caught red-handed’ - and you don’t want to miss it. trust me. get your tickets here. you won’t be sorry.
oh! did i mention that the reason i dug my old journals out was to sharpen the details of the story that i will be telling next wednesday night? hell, yeah. i’m a storyteller. and i’m so excited to connect with you. and you. but, only if you come. so, you gotta get tickets! now!
see you next wednesday!

p dot s: here’s a picture of me taken 10 years ago. i’m the one in the middle with the spice girls-like peace sign. i’m dressed as a hungarian woman. and, yes, the photo was taken in the actual country of hungary. want to know more? then come to Back Fence PDX next wednesday!
p dot p dot s: wtf is twitter, anyways? the first person who can an explanation that i can actually understand wins 2 dozen cupcakes. no, i’m not joking. and, your explanation can’t use the following words or phrases: social networking, micro-blogging, updates, tweets. also in this explanation, i’d like you to tell me how exactly twitter differs from facebook. and, it would be nice to know how and why you do the twittering yourself, if you actually do twitter. can’t wait to hear from you!

my head exploded with all the cuteness in the neighborhood today. the children’s creative learning center across the street from saint cupcake nw held a trike-a-thon to raise money for st. jude’s children’s hospital.
see?
two heats made up this CCLC 500 (or is it tour de knob hill?): one with the “bigger” kids (like 3 and 4 year olds) riding trikes, scooters, and bikes with training wheels all the way around the block. (and don’t worry all you letters-to-the-editor writers who don’t like to share the road--these bikers were hogging the sidewalk only and although they mostly failed to use hand signals, they made their presence known verbally and with the unmistakable sound of plastic wheels on concrete).
see?
then the little ones came out. the 2 year olds. like herding cats, the teachers and parents got a good number of them to look at the trikes set out for them, but only a handful would get on one of the contraptions. their track was set up in the parking lot but the orange cones meant nothing to them. they peddled wherever their little hearts wanted. it was awesome.
see?
as a reward, (and not just the satisfaction of knowing that all their hard work helped raise money for a great cause) they were treated to cupcakes!
see?
shoot. i forgot to get a picture of them eating our cupcakes.
